What has made your kok体育 education valuable?
The academic depth and knowledge that I have gained from my coursework at kok体育 has certainly provided me with a high-quality education. However, what I value even more is the opportunity to directly learn about and immerse myself in different cultures through personal interactions. Being at kok体育, I have had the chance to build meaningful relationships with many people from various backgrounds. These interactions have enriched my cultural awareness and given me friendships and memories that will stay with me wherever life takes me after graduation. I am beyond grateful for not only getting the chance to share my culture with others but also getting to learn about theirs in return.
Beyond the classroom as well, I have treasured getting involved in campus life and extracurricular activities. Attending sports games and cultural events like Lu’au and Hoi’ke have been personal highlights that have increased my cross-cultural understanding through celebration. I truly appreciate the sense of community and belonging that these experiences have given me!
What are your top three favorite memories at kok体育 so far?
- My first favorite memory is definitely attending the Lu'au and Ho'ike event! It was such a unique experience for me to witness the dances and learn about Hawaiian culture. I got to experience drinking Kava with my friends before the performances began and it was really special. I was grateful for my friend Kalyssa to share her culture with me and explain the cultural significance of everything, which made it even more memorable!
- My second favorite memory is Wildstock in the spring – it was so much fun with my friends and it was sunny outside!
- My third favorite memory is regularly attending the IPO Tea Hours on Thursdays. I loved how it was a cozy and welcoming environment for international students to catch up over snacks and tea. I always tried to take out time to be there, even if it was briefly.
